Messaggioda 0891ricky » 13 nov 2016 17:51

....e allora, buon bianco a tutti!!!!!

la mia stima per la maison Krug è ai massimi storici

"Dear Mr Nidi,

Thank you for sending your bottle of Krug Clos du Mesnil 1998.

The meticulous savoir-faire of the House of Krug has revealed two exceptional and rare Champagnes from two of the greatest terroirs in the Champagne region: Krug Clos du Mesnil and Krug Clos d’Ambonnay. Each expresses the individuality, purity and intensity of a single walled plot of vines, a single grape variety and a single year.

Krug Clos du Mesnil is the expression of a unique plot of Chardonnay harvested a particular year. The single walled vineyard of Krug’s Clos du Mesnil lies in the heart of Mesnil-sur-Oger, one of the most renowned villages for Chardonnay in the Champagne region. This small vineyard of just 1.84 hectares makes Krug Clos du Mesnil very rare. Like all Krug Champagnes, Krug’s Clos du Mesnil ages beautifully.

The climate conditions in 1998 in Champagne are quite classical until the month of august. In august, we faced strong heat periods, up to 40°C some days. We observed in the vines what we call "grillure" (some grapes and some leaves directly burnt in the vines...). Nevertheless, after this delicate period, 1998 harvest gave us some ripe and healthy fruits.
The creation of a Krug Clos du Mesnil 1998 was quickly obvious.

So the climate of 1998 was particular, making these year an exceptional one for the House of Krug.

I should also mention that after bottling, Krug Clos du Mesnil is matured at Krug 10 years minimum before release, in order to slowly develop its complexity and subtleties.

For all these reasons, Krug is known to enjoy an extraordinary longevity under one condition of course : proper storage after it has left our cellars (proper storage= constant temperature, between 11 and 15°C, absence of light, shocks, vibrations and with a high and constant level of humidity: around 80%).

A bottle wich has been kept for few years in a cellar but a proper storage conditions will normally be superb.

We wish to highlight that we care for quality of our Champagnes and we pay special attention to the quality of our corks.

We carry out of very strict control from different suppliers we selected. However, cork is made from natural elements, so it’s impossible to eliminate 100% of the risk of cork aromas.

Given the precautions we implement the risk to have a corked bottle is quite exceptional.

We deeply regret this disappointment and we thank you again for informing us. We will provide you, in a few weeks, one bottle of Krug Clos du Mesnil 2002, which officially left our cellar recently.

Please, could you communicate us your address and phone to send you this bottle?

We sincerely hope that each of your future Krug experiences will reflect that Krug normally offers you.

Best regards
